When you’re waiting in a long Sunday checkout queue at the supermarket, pining for an exotic holiday on the other side of the world, you might start wondering if the next time you tap & pay you could be earning frequent flyer points to put towards your travels.
While it’s important to note that rewards cards aren’t the right choice for everyone and don’t necessarily always equate to free flights to exotic locations, if you’ve come to the conclusion that a rewards credit card is what you’re after, we’ve identified a few that you might want to consider when it comes to frequent flyer points:
Bonus Points Offer – ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum
The ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum card offers you 50,000 Qantas Points after your first eligible purchase within the first 3 months, as well as the ability to use Apple Pay and 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on eligible purchases on your Amex card (up to $6,000 per statement period).
$0 Annual Fee – The Qantas American Express Discovery Card
With 7,500 extra Qantas Points for new members when you meet the spend criteria, the Qantas American Express Discovery Card offers 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on purchases and a $0 annual fee. You can also earn up to 1 additional Qantas Point per $1 spent on selected Qantas products and services.
Velocity Rewards – The American Express Velocity Escape Card
If Velocity Rewards is your preferred airline rewards program, the American Express Velocity Escape Card offers a $0 annual fee and 7,500 bonus Velocity Points when you meet the spend criteria. You can also earn up to 2 Velocity Points per $1 spent with Virgin Australia and 1 Velocity Point per $1 spent on all other purchases.
Airport Lounge Access – Westpac Altitude Black Card
If you’re wanting that little bit of extra luxury on your trips away and don’t mind paying a higher annual fee, the Westpac Altitude Black (Qantas) Card provides you with two complimentary Qantas Club Lounge invitations each year after you register and make the applicable card spend on Qantas products and services. On top of earning 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent on your Amex card, you’ll also receive 50,000 bonus points when you apply before 11 October 2016 and spend at least $2,500 on eligible purchases within 90 days. Just note that the minimum income required is $75,000 per year.
